My thoughts

I’ve known for a while that I’m dual diagnosis AuDHD—both autistic and ADHD—but reading this book was still an incredibly eye-opening experience. I started recognizing just how many of my everyday habits are actually autistic traits. For instance, I always apply deodorant to my left side twice, without fail. I can’t sleep in a room where the door is open, no matter how safe I feel. When I sleep, I have to have my ankles, neck, and wrists covered, regardless of the temperature—it’s not about warmth, just a deep-seated need for sensory comfort. I also constantly chew my nails and shake my legs, often without even realizing it. I’ve long understood my need for structure, but this book didn’t just validate that—it helped me see why it’s so essential to my well-being.

If you’re neurodivergent—or if you love someone who is—I can’t recommend this book enough. It will not only expand your understanding of yourself (or them) but will also offer invaluable insights into the way neurodivergent people move through the world. It’s the kind of book that makes you rethink things you’ve always taken for granted and gives you the tools to navigate life with greater self-awareness and compassion.
